Nonogram questions

A nonogram is a picture logic puzzle. Numbers next to a grid tell you how many cells to fill in each row and column. Filling the correct cells reveals a hidden picture.

Pick a grid size and open a puzzle. Read the clue numbers on each row and column. Fill the cells you are sure about first. Use the cross tool to mark cells you know are empty.

Each number is the length of one filled block in that row or column. The numbers appear in the same order as the blocks. A gap of at least one empty cell must separate blocks of the same colour.

Two blocks of the same colour cannot touch each other. Touching blocks would count as one longer block instead of two. An empty cell between them keeps the clue numbers correct and separate.

Every puzzle on this site has one solution, reachable by logic alone. You never need to guess. The check tool still finds a wrong guess if you make one.

A colour nonogram uses two to four colours instead of black and white. Blocks of the same colour need a gap between them. Blocks of different colours can sit side by side with no gap.

The largest size on this site is 30×30 cells. This size is also available in colour mode with up to four colours.

An X marks a cell you know is empty. The X shows that this cell is not part of the picture. Marking it helps you track which cells still need a decision.

Picross and nonogram use the same puzzle logic. The Wikipedia article on Picross says Nintendo trademarked the name for its game series, so this site uses 'nonogram' instead.
